Tattoos have long been present in different cultures all around the world. The earliest known existence of the tattoo dates back to the Neolithic period when tattoos were believed to be worn against danger or pain. The oldest known tattoo-wearing person is Otzi the Iceman. His mummy was found to have about 57 small carbon tattoos of lines and dots on his lower spine as well as on his right knee and right ankle. In Egypt, tattoos were more popular with the women which were usually placed on the abdomen or on the thighs, and were said to be worn as amulets especially during a women’s pregnancy and during her childbirth.
